Markus Landerer was appointed Director of Music at the beginning of 2007.

High Mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral

Dommusik’s main responsibilities include the classical Viennese mass, which is celebrated on Sundays and public holidays at 10.15 a.m. In this solemn mass, the musical arrangement plays a particularly prominent role. The main piece is usually a choral, through-composed mass (traditionally with works by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Bruckner), supplemented by Gregorian chant, organ music and individual pieces or movements performed by various vocal and orchestral formations. Congregational singin is
accompanied by the choir and the orchestra.

Worshippers celebrating high mass are usually provided with a pamphlet containing the order of service, prayers and words to the hymns as well as short introductions to the liturgy and the musical works performed.

The full high mass Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a unique experience, and its reputation extends far beyond Austria’s borders.

The Dommusik St. Stephan high mass is broadcast live on Sundays and public holidays at 10.15 a.m., (during the summer vacation at 9.30 a.m.) on Radio Stephansdom (107.3 FM).
